If you\u2019re seeking investment, here are the key criteria we consider:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investment Approach<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Initial Funding:<\/strong> Typically between \u00a375k to \u00a3100k, with potential for additional tranches tied to agreed milestones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Investment:<\/strong> Larger sums possible when partnering with other funds, including Scottish Enterprise Co-Investment Scheme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Equity Stake:<\/strong> We require a meaningful shareholding (minimum 20%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>EIS Relief:<\/strong> Preference for EIS Qualifying investments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exit Preference:<\/strong> Investments may include preferential rights on exit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Business Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your business should be <strong>market-ready<\/strong>, beyond the research and development phase.<\/li>\n<li>Must be <strong>scalable<\/strong>, with growth potential in both domestic and international markets.<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual property must be <strong>properly protected<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>credible strategy<\/strong> with clear timelines for sales, profitability, and cash flow self-sufficiency.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>realistic plan to exit<\/strong> within five years, including milestones, timelines and manner of exit.<\/li>\n<li>Ideally <strong>UK-based (preferably Scotland)<\/strong>, with a solid operational base and not capital-intensive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sector Preferences<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most Sectors Considered<\/li>\n<li>Protectable Technology<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Green\u2019 opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sectors We Avoid <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Property<\/li>\n<li>Traditional Retail<\/li>\n<li>Computer Games\/Apps<\/li>\n<li>Drug Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Management Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>complete, sector-experienced management team<\/strong> (including finance and sales), not reliant solely on one or two individuals.<\/li>\n<li>HVC will provide support through an experienced Chair, Non-Executive Directors, and financial advice as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Costs<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Legal and due diligence fees on entry.<\/li>\n<li>Charges for Chair\/NXD support and an index-linked monthly monitoring fee.<\/li>\n<li>A possible success fee upon exit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our Process<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you believe your company is a good fit for Highland Venture Capital, here\u2019s the process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Send an Executive Summary<\/strong><br \/>\nEmail a short executive summary to <a href=\"mailto:glenn@highvc.co.uk\"><strong>glenn@highvc.co.uk<\/strong><\/a>.
